Student Success Statement
"Your future is created byIwhat you do today, not tomorrow"
Robert Kiryosaki

It means your decisions that you make now form your future. If you make bad choices now your future will be bad and full of guilt. If you make good choices now you will be happy and be able to enjoy life.

Jenna Huff
High School Student
wins
Extreme "Sportsmanship" award
from U.S. Olyimpic Comittee
Jenna Huff was in a cross country race with fellow competior Deb Guthman. They were both side by side but Guthman was slightly ahead. When they were racing when Deb stops after 3 miles of running because she was hurt. When Jenna sees Deb hurt she doesnt see it as advantage to win but more like a chance to help someone. Jenna stops to help Deb instead of thaking advantage. She helped Deb cross the finish line and still made her get in front to win the race. For that act of good sportsmanship she was rewarded with the "Extreme Sportsmanship Award" from the U.S. Olympic Comittee.

Reflection
I think Jenna did the right thing even though she could have passed Deb or crossed the finish line before Deb, She let  her go in fron of her to win. I Think that show good sportsmanship.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Students
Habit 5
4. Think Win-Win
Teens can learn to foster the belief that it is possible to create an atmosphere of Win-Win in every relationship. This habit encourages the idea that any given discussions or ideas of both parties can arrive at mutually beneficial solution. Your teen will learn to celebrate the accomplishments of others instead of being threatened by them. Win-Win is a belief that everyone wins/ it’s both nice and tough all at once I won’t step on you, but I won’t be your doormat either. You care about people and want them to succeed. But you also care about yourself, and you want to succeed as well. Win-Win is abundant. The belief is that there is plenty of success to go around. It’s not either me or you it’s the both of us. It’s an all you can eat buffet. Win- Win creates more. Perhaps the most surprising benefit of thinking Win-Win is the good feeling it brings on. The true test of whether or not you are thinking Win-Win or one of the alternatives is how you feel. Thinking Win-Lose and Lose-Win thinking will cloud your judgment and fill you with negative feelings. Win-Win will fill you heart with happy and serene thoughts. It will give you confidence. Even fill you up with light. Think Win-Win or no deal.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 3
Habit 3: Put First Things First
Habit three is about will and will not power. This habit helps teens prioritize and manage their time so that they focus on and complete the most important things in their lives. Putting first things first also means learning to overcome fears and being strong during difficult times. Things first deals with things that are: Important or not important, urgent or not urgent. Let’s look at the four quadrants of time management.
Quadrant 1: Things that are important and Urgent
Quadrant 2: Things that are important but not urgent
Quadrant 3: Things that are not important but are Urgent
Quadrant 4: Things that are not important and not urgent
1. Important & Urgent
2. Important but not Urgent
3. Not Important but are Urgent
4. Not Important and Not Urgent

Quadrant 2 is the ideal place to spend our time, doing things that are important but not urgent. Here’s where priorities come into play. Results for living Quadrant 2 are:
1.       Control of your life
2.       Balance
3.       High Performance

So in what quadrant are you spending most of you time? The key is to shift as much time possible into Quadrant 2 and this is accomplished by planning. Spend more time planning and incorporating things first, things that matter most. Keep your eyes on the prize and reach for it.

Successful Students
3-4
3. Ask questions. Successful students ask questions to provide the quickest questions between route between ignorance and knowledge. In addition securing knowledge. In addition to securing knowledge you seek, asking questions has at least two other extremely important benefits. The process helps you pay attention to your professor and helps your professor pay attention to you! Think about it. If you want something, go after it. Get the answer now, or fail a question later. There are no foolish questions, only foolish silence. It’s your choice.
4. … learn that a student and a professor make a team. Most instructors want exactly what you want: they would like for you to learn the material in their respective classes and earn a good grade.
Successful student reflect well on the efforts of any teacher; if you have learned your material, the instructor takes pride in teaching. Join forces with your instructor, they are not your enemy, you share the same interests, the same goals- in short, and your teammates. Get to know your professor.
You’re the most valuable players on the same team. Your jobs are to work together for mutual success. Neither wishes to chalk up a losing season. Be a team player.

Sarah’s Success Story
Part 2
My test study method: I have different strategies for different types of test or subjects. For me, any type of math is exceptionally difficult so I had to spend extra time on that. I would go back through the homework problems focusing on the problems that I had extra difficulty on. Many times I would ask the teacher for any additional study materials they could provide. If it was a class that required memorization or applying concepts I would create a sort of study guide for myself many times focusing on what were key focal points in the class. If I knew there were going to be essays I would try to take the terms and apply them to an example or create different questions on the concepts focused on throughout the semester. My time management secret: I always always always carry a planner with me. I even use different color highlighters to show what each vent on my calendar is for. For example pink is personal, yellow is school, orange is work, blue is appointments, and green is for my sorority. Although I use white out frequently, I can see in bright yellow that I need to start working on it on the previous Wednesday so I can just get it done. My friends have always been amazed how early I get things accomplished but that is really all I do.

Sarah’s Academic Success Story
Part 1
Time management became key factor in my skills in college. In high school, there were times I was able to study for an hour or two the night before a test and get away with it. This was not the case in college. I made sure in college I was prepared for each class. Sometimes that meant writing out the terms for the chapter we read (even if when it wasn’t required) to better understand them. That way when the midterm or test comes along I was able to understand what I was studying. Study I started taking excellent notes in class in college. I may have done this in high school, but in college I started typing up the notes after class. this helped me remember what I just gone over in class then when I had a test one week later I was more likely to remember then as well.
My overall study method: Structured. One thing that I learned was I had to adapt or change my study method according to the class. I couldn’t study for a religion class the same way I studied for each class even if it meant carrying a planner with me at all times was a big part of my success.
